What Is an Audio Trimmer?

An audio trimmer cuts a long recording down to just the part you need — the intro of a song, one line of a podcast, a specific verse. You pick a start point and an end point, and everything outside that range is discarded.

Unlike lossy re-encoding tools, cutting doesn't need to touch the audio quality of the part you keep — we decode once and cut precisely at the sample level before re-encoding the final clip.

Tips for Precise Trims

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the audio trimmer really free?
Yes, completely free. No trial period, no credit card, no catch.
Does trimming lose audio quality?
The cut itself is sample-accurate with no quality loss. The final clip is then encoded to MP3 for download, the same as our other tools.
What if I set an end time past the end of the file?
We simply trim to the end of the file — nothing breaks.
Why don't I see a waveform for my file?
The waveform is normally decoded locally in your browser, instantly and with no upload — this works for most audio files. It's not available this way for video files (the audio track inside a video container usually can't be decoded client-side) or for audio formats your specific browser can't decode. In either case, the start/end number fields below still work exactly the same. For video files specifically, you'll also see a "Get Waveform Preview" button — clicking it uploads your file once so we can extract just the audio track and send back a small preview for the waveform. If you go on to trim the file, that same upload is reused for the final cut, so you never have to upload the same video twice.
What audio formats can I upload?
You can upload MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, AAC, OGG, AIFF, WMA, Opus, AMR, APE, WavPack (WV), and most other common audio formats. You can also upload video files (MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, WebM, FLV, WMV, MPG, 3GP, and more) — we'll automatically extract the audio track before trimming. Maximum file size is 100 MB for audio, 1 GB for video. Audio longer than about 10 minutes may not finish processing in time — for best results, keep uploads under 10 minutes.
What format is the output file?
The trimmed clip is delivered as a high-quality MP3 file.
Can I trim out a middle section and keep both the beginning and end?
Not in a single pass — each trim keeps one continuous range and discards the rest. To remove a middle section, run the trimmer twice (once for the part before it, once for the part after), then use our Audio Merger to join the two pieces back together.
